The students and staff at Addeys have always been very generous in raising awareness and supporting a wide range of charities.  Perhaps it stems from the long history of the school going back to the initial reasons for founding the Addey and then the Stanhope Schools in Deptford.  We believe it is important that students develop empathy and show compassion for others in less fortunate positions.  Over the course of each academic year we hold several assemblies to highlight the work done by the organisations we support and also inform students through lessons and student briefing in pastoral time.  Planning and then running fundraising events is also a great way for the students to develop life skills such as co-operation, independent thinking, leadership and organisation.

In 2015/2016 the school raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need, The Poppy Appeal and Crisis.  For Sport Relief in March 2016 every child took part in the Sport Relief Mile during their PE lessons.  New records were set and many students also set their own personal bests.  This academic year has already been busy with a giant coffee morning and bake off competition held by Years 7 and 8 in September and a whole school mufti day for Children in Need on November 18th.  Year 9s took a lead role in raising money for Children in Need in the run up to Friday, 18th November.  Students also bought poppies and wore them with pride on 11th November.

The Prefects delivered 2 presentations to the school about charities that are important to them  -  Asthma UK and Young Minds.  Asthma UK was selected as many people in the school are affected directly and indirectly by asthma.  Young Minds was selected as mental health is an area that is hard to look after at times as some people feel there is a stigma attached to it.  The whole school then voted on which charity to adopt as our school charity for this year.  Young Minds was selected and to date we have raised over £200 for this charity.  The Year 10 charity group has set a target of £1500 for the school to raise for Young Minds.  Each year group is running their own activities to raise money.

In December we delivered lots of hampers to DAGE (the Deptford Action Group for the Elderly) which is situated on Deptford High Street.  Students in each tutor group brought in festive items for their tutor group hamper.  The volunteers at DAGE were very happy to receive them.

Our next large event will be Comic Relief on March 24th 2017.
